Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder (helps make the flatbread puff up)
3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
1/4 cup plain yogurt (for a soft, slightly tangy flavor)
2 tablespoons olive oil (for softening the dough)
1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing on top)
Instructions:
Step 1: Mix the Dough
Combine dry ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix these dry ingredients together thoroughly.
Add the wet ingredients:
Add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir with a spoon or your hands to combine. The dough will start to come together, but it might seem a little sticky at first.
Knead the dough:
Once the dough begins to come together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes. The dough should be soft, smooth, and only slightly sticky. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time. If it’s too dry, add a tiny bit of warm water. Knead until the dough becomes elastic and no longer sticks to your hands.
Let the dough rest:
Once the dough is kneaded, form it into a ball and place it back in the bowl. Cover with a damp kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rest for 1 hour at room temperature. This resting time will allow the dough to rise slightly and become easier to roll out.
Step 2: Roll Out the Flatbreads
Divide the dough:
After the dough has rested, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces (or 6 if you prefer larger flatbreads).
Roll out the dough:
