Before we begin explaining the actual makeup, let’s focus on one detail: Every washing machine is designed to support a maximum load of kilograms.
Check if yours is adequate. Typically, a wet single-sided duvet weighs around 6 kg, while a double-sided one weighs over 8 kg. Then check the label to see if it can be washed and spun at home, at what temperature, and at what maximum speed.
Once all this is established, we move on to the strategy to put it in the basket without effort.
Place it on the balcony and tap it vigorously to remove any dust and dirt. Then place it back on the bed and begin wrapping it around itself, gradually tightening it to create a long, yet as thin, sausage as possible. Leave it like this and move it to the front of the washing machine. Place one end on the sides of the basket and begin inserting it gently to prevent it from opening. You’ll easily accomplish the task without worrying.
Now set the delicate wash cycle with a moderately high temperature and a spin speed of approximately 600 rpm. This prevents the machine from overworking and damaging itself, and the down fibers remain intact.
When you’re finished, spread it outdoors, but not in direct sunlight, and wait until it’s completely dry before removing it. Turn it upside down in the meantime to allow it to swell and prevent water from accumulating at the bottom.
Now you really know everything and can wash your duvet safely at home without spending a fortune on laundry.
