In another bowl, beat the egg, add the milk, vanilla extract and vegetable oil. Mix well.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well to avoid lumps.
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan to 180 degrees Celsius.
Using a spoon or piping bag, drop small amounts of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides (1-2 minutes per side).
Combine sugar and cinnamon (if using) in a bowl. After frying, sprinkle the hot donuts with the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat them evenly.
