Do you get out of the shower and, instead of a soft and pleasant towel, you catch a rough and uncomfortable fabric? Over time, towels lose their softness and become rigid, often due to bad washing habits. Fortunately, there are simple and natural solutions to restore their gentleness. Here are the most common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Too much laundry is the opposite effect.
It is often thought that adding more laundry will make towels cleaner and softer. In fact, excess detergent accumulates in the fibers, making them hard and less absorbent.
The solution: Reduce the amount of laundry and give preference to additional rinsing to remove all residues.
Sodium bicarbonate: an essential ally
Sodium bicarbonate is an excellent ingredient for preserving the softness of the towels. It acts as a deodorant, removes soap residues and naturally softens the fibers.
Tip: Add three tablespoons of bicarbonate in the laundry compartment for softer towels.
White vinegar to replace the softener
Conventional softeners leave a feeling of artificial softness, but coat the fibers with a film that reduces their absorption. White vinegar softens without altering the effectiveness of the towels.
Tip: Add half a glass of white vinegar to the softening tray for optimal results.
Good to know: The smell of vinegar disappears completely after washing and drying.
Do not overload your machine
If you pack too much towels, they will not have enough space to be thoroughly washed and rinsed.
Good practice: Do not fill more than two thirds of the drum to allow good water circulation.
Separate towels from other clothing
Washing the towels with clothes is a common mistake. They release soft toys that can attach to the laundry and, as they absorb more water, they require a specific washing cycle.
Tip: Wash your towels alone, without mixing with other textiles.
