In a bucket or bowl, mix equal amounts of hot water and white vinegar. Vinegar is an excellent natural cleaner and helps kill mold and bacteria.
Soaking the drawer:
Immerse the tray in the hot water and vinegar solution. Let it soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. This helps remove residue and mold.
Deep cleaning:
Use an old, clean toothbrush to scrub the drawer compartments. Concentrate on the areas where you see mold or dirt building up. You can also sprinkle a little baking soda on the toothbrush to help remove stubborn stains.
Rinsing and drying:
Rinse the tray thoroughly with clean water to remove any vinegar or baking soda residue.
Use a clean cloth to wipe the inside of the drawer and compartments. Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back in the washing machine.
Replace the tray:
Once the drawer is clean and dry, put it back in the washing machine.
Regular maintenance:
To prevent mold from forming in the future, remove the drawer regularly and wipe it with a clean, dry cloth. Leave the drawer compartment open after each wash to allow the moisture to evaporate.
By following these steps you can keep your washing machine drawer clean and mold-free, extending the life of your appliance and allowing for more hygienic washing.
