Introduction
As an avid cook, I love experimenting with different recipes in my crock pot. One of my all-time favorites is the Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs. This dish is packed with flavor and incredibly easy to make. The combination of tender meatballs and savory French onion sauce is simply irresistible. In this article, I will share with you my step-by-step instructions for preparing this delicious recipe.
Ingredients
To make the Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs, you will need the following ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 egg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups sliced onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
Steps by Step Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Transfer the meatballs to a crock pot.
4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are caramelized.
5. Transfer the caramelized onions and garlic to the crock pot with the meatballs.
6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the mixture over the meatballs and onions in the crock pot.
7. Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours, or until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
8. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the crock pot to thicken the sauce.
9. Continue cooking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Keto and Low Carb Variations
If you’re following a keto or low carb diet, you can still enjoy the deliciousness of Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs. Simply replace the breadcrumbs with almond flour and omit the cornstarch. The rest of the recipe remains the same. The almond flour will help bind the meatballs, and the sauce will still thicken without the cornstarch.
