Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the chilled, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it holds together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet, making sure the edges touch for soft sides.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.
Variations & Tips
For a cheesy twist, add a cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the flour mixture before adding the buttermilk. You can also sprinkle a bit of garlic powder for a savory touch. If you prefer a sweeter biscuit, add a tablespoon of sugar to the dry ingredients. For a bit of Southern flair, try adding a tablespoon of chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme.
