Alsatian white cheese tart, also known as white cheese tarte flambée, is a traditional dish from Alsatian cuisine. This tart is both hearty and creamy and is great as a starter or main course. Here is a simple recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
1 package of puff pastry or tart base (ready-made or homemade)
200 g white cheese (e.g. quark, cream cheese or a mild goat cheese)
100 g crème fraîche
1 onion, cut into thin rings
150 g diced bacon (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp nutmeg (optional)
Fresh herbs (e.g. chives or parsley), to garnish
Preparation:
Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat).
Prepare the dough: If you are using puff pastry or a tart base, roll it out on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Press the dough lightly along the edge to create a small edge.
