Ingredients:
4 large onions (yellow or sweet onions work best)
3 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter for a richer taste)
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for extra sweetness and depth)
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or rosemary, as an alternative)
Salt and pepper to taste
1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for added caramelization)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Prepare the Onions:
Peel the onions and slice off the ends. Cut the onions in half horizontally (or into thick rings if preferred) to expose the layers.
Place the onions cut side up in a baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.
Season the Onions:
Drizzle the olive oil (or melted butter) over the onion halves, ensuring they are well-coated.
If using, drizzle balsamic vinegar and honey or maple syrup on top to enhance caramelization.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over each onion half.
