1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Warm the milk (not too hot!) and mix it with the egg and softened butter. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.

2. Make the Apple Filling:

  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the apples soften slightly but aren’t mushy.
  3. Stir in the lemon juice to brighten the flavors and let the mixture cool.

3. Assemble the Rolls:

  1. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
  2. Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge, then cut into 12 even slices.
  4. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.

4. Bake the Rolls:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.

5. Glaze the Rolls:

  1. In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls and enjoy!
